In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

1. The title of the magazine

I have chosen to use this font (Infected - downloaded from www.dafont.com) and the red shades to make the title clearly stand out on the front cover of the magazine. Most magazines use this convention, for example Kerrang! magazine, where the title very clearly stands out from the background of the front cover. I used the red shades so the title would fit with the house style of my magazine and I used used a reddy brown colour on the inside with an added noise effect. I did this because the word 'Grill' has could be an index for heat, so I tried to make the writing look like it was burning. It also relates to both the title and the slogan for the magazine with the heat of a grill burning and the flames for "Flaming Hot Hip-Hop and R&B"
2. Mise-en-scene of images

I chose this picture for mise-en-scene as the people pictured (A fake band called 'Born with Beats') have been photographed to look like they fit the genre of the music and dressed similarly to the target audience for my magazine. I have also changed the colour of their clothes so that they fit the house style of my magazine.

3. Costumes and Props

The costume in this picture fits with my magazine because of the white colour which matches my house style and because the clothes are very similar to the original picture that I was trying to mimic. Lots of existing media products use this technique of getting the people they are photographing to wear corresponding colours so the pictures fit the style of the magazine. This picture also makes good use of props with the sunglasses and the earings which match the style of the original artist.
4. People

These are the three main people in my magazine because they are the group that appears on the front cover, the contents page and the double page spread as the main group. My magazine uses the existing forms and conventions of real media products here with having lots of publicity on and inside the magazine for the main artist/group that they are showcasing.

5. Title font and style

I chose to use this title font because it is bold and stands out on the front cover of the magazine, as well as on other key pages such as the contents page.

6.
Written content
This is the written style inside my magazine. I used a basic font so it was clear to read. My writing does however challenge the standard forms and conventions of real media products, this is because I have used white writing on a black background where as most magazines I have seen use black writing on a white background. I chose to make this decision because it seemed to fit better with the house style of my magazine. My writing wraps around the picture on the double page spread and the pull quote as well, this is also a standard convention with existing media products.

7. Music genre and how your magazine suggests it

My magazine suggests the genre of the music through the facial expressions of the artist on my front cover, by the clothes that they are wearing (e.g. the right hand band member wearing a hoody) and by their hand gestures which are typical of artists who perform Hip-Hop and R&B music.
8. Layout
This is the layout of my double page spread. This is a standard convention for real media products with the use of columns of text, different colours to symbolize who is talking and to use a pull quote to grab the readers attention.

9. Contents Pages
My contents page uses standard forms and conventions of real media products. This is because the page is clearly divided into sections by regulars of the magazine and special features that are exclusive to one issue. It also has writing that is aligned to the corresponding picture.
